James, the son of Zebedee, was one of the very first to leave everything and follow Jesus. Alongside his brother John and Peter, he formed part of Jesus’ closest circle – witnessing miracles, hearing His most intimate teachings, and standing near Him during His most pivotal moments.
But James’s legacy didn’t end with his calling. It was sealed in his courage.
According to Acts 12:2, James was the first apostle to give his life for the Gospel. He followed Jesus not only in life, but in death – boldly, faithfully, and without turning back.
“He was put to death with the sword.”
– Acts 12:2
His story reminds us that following Jesus isn’t always easy. In fact, it rarely is. But it is always worth it.
James walked the hills and streets of the Land of Israel. He heard Jesus teach. He served with conviction. And even when the path led to suffering, he didn’t waver.
His example challenges us to hold firm when faith is costly. To endure when the world pushes back. And to trust that God is present even in trials.
If you’re praying for courage, endurance, or a deeper faith, consider submitting your prayer in honor of James’s legacy. Our team is here on the ground in Israel – walking the land where James once lived and served – and we will personally place your prayer by hand at one of Jerusalem’s sacred sites.
Let your prayer echo the heart of a disciple who followed to the end.
