Lifting Our Eyes To The Hills
“I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1–2
If you stand on the Mount of Olives and look toward the Old City of Jerusalem, those words feel very real.
You see the city spread out below. You see the walls, the Temple Mount, the ancient roofs that have watched generations come and go. From this hillside, many believers feel the quiet sense that God is writing a story that is bigger than any one moment.
For many of us, early December is a time to think about seasons.
The year is almost over. Some things worked out. Some did not.
Maybe you are hoping that the next season will look different.
From the Mount of Olives, that longing for a new beginning becomes a prayer.
A Hill Filled With Hope
The Mount of Olives appears again and again in the Bible.
- Jesus often spent time there with His disciples
- He wept over Jerusalem from this hillside
- He prayed there before His arrest
- After the resurrection, His followers saw Him ascend from near this place, with the promise that He will return
From this hill, the disciples watched Jesus go up into heaven. Two angels stood by them and said:
“This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven,
will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven.”
Acts 1:11
The Mount of Olives reminds us that
- Jesus knows our sorrow and our tears
- Jesus has already overcome death and the grave
- Jesus will return and make all things new
It is a place that holds both pain and promise, both struggle and hope.
That makes it a very meaningful place to pray for a new season in your life.
A New Season In Your Story
Maybe this year has included
- a change in work or income
- health issues that will not let go
- tension in your family or marriage
- children or grandchildren who are on your heart
- a sense that God is calling you into something new
You might be thankful for many things and still feel that you are standing between two seasons. One chapter is closing, and another has not fully opened yet.
From the Mount of Olives, we can agree with you in prayer that
- God will guide your steps
- God will heal what is broken
- God will open doors that no person can shut
- God will give you the courage to walk in His calling
A View From The Mount Of Olives
